Poorly Engineered
I have owned two Bissel spot lifters. In both cases, the spray hose became easily blocked so that the spray became uneven. There is no simple means of cleaning the hose. The AC adapters fail easily. This is a problem since the Bissel must remained plugged when not in use; its batteries cannot hold their charge for long periods of time. It's too bad. While it works, its very convenient, especially for those with cats who cough up hairballs.

Great floor cleaner; lightweight but powerful
I bought the Bissell multi purpose cleaner to use as a mop. I hate mopping because a mop is too heavy for me to push around, leaving me feeling exhausted and unmotivated for the next mopping session. The Bissell cleaner works nicely and is really light. I have to sweep first because its suction strip is narrow and easily plugged up. The first time I used it, I hardly swept, and the big chunks plugged the strip in front and it no longer sucked water back up. I then looked at it and used a tooth pick to get rid of all the stuff (a bit gross but easy and quick to do), then it works nicely. It has big wheels and pushes easily. There is a squeezer on the handle; when I squeeze, it sprays water out which is then sucked up. The suction is so good that when you pull the vacuum back, the floor is as dry as a wiped surface. When you push the vacuum forward, the water stays because the vacuuming strip is in front of the sprayer, but if you run over it again it sucks the water right up.

The steam part is a stretch. There is no heating element in this vacuum, so it gets no hotter than the hot water you put in, which gets spray out and sucked back into the holding tank with the dirt. Unless you put in boiling water (which they don't recommend), you won't be seeing steam. I just use normal cold water from the tap and no soap, and it works great on normal dirt marks and spills. The floor feels nice and clean afterwards. It takes just as long to vacuum as to mop the old fashioned way, but the work is much easier for me. No straining of any muscles.

With three boys and a house in the country, the floor gets dirty really often. So it's really nice to just plug in the vacuum and suck up the juice spill - no filling the mop bucket, no wringing out the watery mop, no lugging it around, no dumping the water afterwards. The water tank has to be filled when empty and the waste tank need to be dumped when full, but they are only half a gallon, so it isn't as heavy as a mop bucket, and you don't need to do it for small jobs. It's really nice for when my kids take baths. They always get water everywhere, which has till recently been a headache for me, but not anymore! Just bring in the vacuum and it'll suck it all up with little effort and no fuss! In fact, my six year old likes it so much, he does it for me.

The vacuum comes in a small package, which made me wonder at first (my nine year old said, that's the smallest vacuum in the world!), but once assembled by three screws (my 9 year old assembled it and said he didn't need the instructions, but I checked his work to make sure), it is as big and tall as a normal upright vacuum. To vacuum the floor, you have to put on this attachment that snaps right on.

My only complaint is that the cord is attached to the vacuum on the right side. Being right handed, I would have preferred it on the left.

For a cheap vacuum, the suction is extremely strong. I haven't used it on my carpet yet, but I don't doubt it will do a good job.

I highly recommend this product.

Very Good Canister Vacuum
I have had this vacuum for a few weeks and it is one of the best. My only complaint is the noise. The motor is very loud, but most vacuums are. On the good side: it is relatively light, the extension wand is very good, and the suction is powerful. Ratio of price to quality is excellent. I am unsure why the extra hepa filter is so expensive (at around $20-25), but
at least there is one available, though I have to say that the exhaust is nowhere near my old vacuum, and I am not sure the hepa filter is needed when using the allergy efficient bags. Overall, a super good buy.

Love the Bissell Steam Mop....It's better than the Shark
I have owned both the Bissell and the Shark. The Bissell cleans better, is easier to use and is more durable.

RE: Bitten by another Shark
Yesterday I received the latest addition to my "Shark" collection - the Euro-Pro 13 inch, 3 Speed Cordless Sweeper (modeLV647H). I am certain Euro-Pro changes the model numbers frequently in a vain attempt to hypo sales. I did not purchase this latest gem from Amazon.com (instead I foolishly paid $10 more for this my most recent lesson in purchasing defective products); I bought this item online from one of the "three letter" outfits. Yes, I did buy the item in spite of the "first person", always helpful Amazon reviews......foiled again by my own refusal to learn from the past.

After charging up the sweeper for the recommended 20 hours (seems like an unusually long time, but I wanted to follow instructions to the letter)I prepared to remove a sizeable amount of dust (dust only - honest) that had accumulated under my bed (two years worth I believe). Unfortunately the "Shark Gods" had declared that such was not to be the case!

After ten minutes of continous (not intermittant) operation I experienced smoke rising from the sweeper's head assembly and a distinct loss of dust "pickup" capability. I then emptied the plastic box-like dust "cup" and proceded to resume my cleaning with a similar result - much smoke, no vacuuming capability. What always amazes me is how smoothly the Shark demos go on tv whether it is "Mark the Head Shark" using the now legendary "steam bottle" (which I also purchased elsewhere much to my regret) or some smiling demo lady (usually "Elizabeth") vacuuming away, sucking up every piece of dust, hair and grime in sight on an anonymous carpet or steam cleaning bathroom/kitchen fixtures while I sit enthralled viewing the always exceptional cleaning experience on my tv set.

However, when I purchase the same advertised Shark product all heck breaks loose and malfunctions reign supreme. Needless to say (but I will anyway) this latest Shark is going back in its tank and I will promptly return it to Plattsburg, New York (headquarters) or somewhere in Virginia (at my expense of course) to the three letter company where I purchase it - using a three letter company (UPS)for the job.

The 30 day trial period must have been invented for Euro Pro/Shark - it has saved much misery in the world. Needless to say they have the greatest marketing department in the history of retailing....

Ah, but I will continue to purchase Euro-Pro products for the "thrill" of briefly using them and then paying for their return to the vendors. Is this living? Probably not.

Regards,

Jim
