This Vacuum doesn't suck!
4 HP just isn't enough to pick up normal items. Combine no power with a hose that is too narrow, and all you have is a cleaning nightmare. Stay away from this item, and anyother shop vac that has hoses and fittings too narrow. Everything gets clogged. The hose has a bend that is not flexible. Clogs are a real pain to clear. I am definitely going to try and return this item. Total waste of money!

This vacuum really sucks--literally!
I have to admit I was skeptical at first because of the lukewarm "professional" reviews of Dyson in general, but now I'm a true convert. I LOVE this vacuum (coming from someone that HATES housecleaning).

Pros
--Canister style vacuum-great for those of us with back problems that can't push around a heavy upright for long.
--Suction power-WONDERFUL suction on this thing.
--Power brushes-stiff bristles "refresh" the carpet and can easily be turned off by foot controls (no bending down).
--Maneuverability-this has a ball style joint that makes it extremely maneuverable.
--Compact storage-it wraps around itself and is light enough to easily pick up and carry.
--No filters or belts to replace-just clean the built-in filter every 6 months with tap water.
--Quiet!-this is the quietest vacuum I've ever used.
--Retractable cord-guess this is standard on most canisters, but as a former upright user this is a nice feature to me.
--Low profile vacuum head-makes it easier to get under the couches, beds, etc.
--No bags to buy...ever!
--5 Year Warranty

Cons
--No headlight-funny I didn't realize how dark some of my corners are.
--Using attachments is a little awkward because of the larger, inflexible handle, but I imagine I'll get used to it.
--Short power cord-could definitely use a few more feet, but I suspect this was as long as they could fit into the compact unit.
--Power brushes-just a warning here, they're not for delicate carpets. They're rather stiff compared to most and I imagine could do some damage to older/thinner rugs.
--Small collection bin-available volume seems small due to the compact design, but it's EASY to empty, so not really a big problem.
--Price-it's not cheap, but I did find a 20% off coupon on-line for another store so saved $100.

There are enough cons that I can't give this vacuum 5 stars, but none of them are serious enough in my opinion to be major detractors. I'm definitely happy with my purchase.

Worked for about 5 minutes...
Brought this vacuum hope and it worked for about 5 minutes before I smelled burning rubber and the brushroll stopped moving. The belt had broken, already! Upon further inspection the brushroll wouldn't turn right and I had to purchase a new one (not covered under the 2 year parts warranty!). I was trying to save a few bucks, because who wants to spend $100+ to vacuum a small apartment? Anyway, I pretty much regret it. Probably a good idea to avoid these low end Dirt Devil models unless you like the expense and hassle of repairing a $50 vacuum.

Does the job 2 years and counting, would recommend it
This product works just fine in our home, upstairs, and downstairs. I used to use it only on a couple rugs and hardwood floors, but we have since moved to a place full of carpet. Carpet is bad enough, but dirty carpet is worse. This vacuum keeps it looking nice. We have a toddler and it gets messy. I have not had any issues with "blowing dirt". And yes, the brush roll, as with any I've owned, will get stuck if there is too much hair, string, dental floss, etc stuck on it. In this case, you take a scissors and cut it off. Then the belt will not burn and you can continue on with the vacuum.

Vacuum is good for the price
I purchased this vacuum from Target.com, in order to replace my Hoover bag vacuum. I wanted something BAGLESS, with a HEPA filter, that would last a while & something for pet hair. I have one English Cocker Spaniel, a teenager & a preschooler, & I plan on getting a cat or two in the future. Shedding is not a problem, however we all have a lot of hair, so we all shed a bit.

I eagerly awaited the arrival. It came quite quickly. I ordered it on the evening of Friday, Nov. 30th & it arrived the afternoon of Tuesday, December 2. Excellent.

I took it out of the box & it only needed four screws (yay!). I attached the handle with two screws & the tool attachment with two screws (philips).

I turned it on & it picked up a tremendous amount of hair, hair that I didn't even know was there. I kept emptying the cup & it kept picking up fine dust & hair. The funny thing is, it doesn't feel like there is a any suction underneath the vacuum when I hold my hand there.

I, personally, wash the filters every time I use it. It's fast to do, taking less than five minutes. Let them air dry before returning them to the vacuum.

The vacuum does get hot at the bottom where the motor is. The owners manual says this is normal. I have a small house, but I vacuum thoroughly, so it takes me about 20 minutes.

The attachements are hit & miss. I think the feather duster is nothing more than a cute add on, as it doesn't "trap" or pick up any dust that I can tell. It just pushes it around (if at all).

The Pet Paw does a great job, though. It's got great suction (as apposed to the underside!) & the beater bar captures the hair & it's all gone in one or two passes. I hosted a rescue kitty for two weeks & prior to me, the cat was on a very poor diet & shed a LOT. She left a lot of hair on the back of my velvet couch. The pet paw removed her hair in a single pass.

I have had NO odor issues. This is a huge plus.

I was surprised at the poor reviews at Amazon because it's got flawless reviews at Target.com.

There are different versions of this vacuum, and each one seems to have a different review. This will be a great vacuum if it lasts a few years. While it's a lower-priced vacuum, I have high hopes :)
